Every Birthday Deserves to Be Celebrated

There are moments in life when grief quietly finds its way back into your heart.

This year, as my mom's birthday approached, I found myself needing somewhere to pour a grief cup that had slowly started filling again. I didn't want to sit in that sadness. I wanted to turn it into something that could bring joy to someone else.

So I started thinking about birthdays.

Growing up, we didn't always have a lot. Life wasn't always easy, and there were times when money was tight. But no matter what was going on, my mom made sure birthdays were celebrated.

There was always a cake.

Maybe it wasn't fancy. Maybe it wasn't perfect.

There were candles, birthday wishes, and a reminder that, for one day, you were celebrated simply because you existed.

Looking back, I realized those moments weren't really about the cake.

They were about feeling loved.

After losing my mom, I realized one of the best ways I could honor her memory was to continue the tradition she gave her family, not just for my own children, but for other families who may be facing difficult seasons of their own.
